The static head, I believe, was supposed to have been replaced by an animated one, and other things as well. When The Mesh Project came out with their standard and deluxe mesh bodies, I – like so many of you – flocked to The Shops, eager to give them my money. And many of the early efforts were just really disappointing. There were non-human meshes, definitely, but mostly, unless you are a shape-shifter or a tiny, the idea of upgrading to mesh seemed daunting. I was one of those people who got into mesh avatars when there were just a few really basic models available, but mostly it was Slink hands and feet. Since I was changing it all with my new BOM knowledge, I figured I might as well go all the way, so I bought a copy of the Legacy Male avatar. Think of all the time you’ll save having to re-apply everything if you tried demos that changed your appearance! Combine BOM with Firestorm’s “Outfits” feature, and Bakes on Mesh becomes one of the best time-saving tool to come onto the scene in years. You just need to enable BOM in your avatar’s HUD (and probably your head’s HUD as well), and then start trying on combinations of looks you can change in an instant. BOM lets you wear everything like old system clothing, including skins, hair bases, and tattoos. The more I read about BOM, the more I realized I hadn’t got it at all. From the snippets of chat I caught, it sounded like a way to wear your old system clothing on your new mesh bodies. I first heard about BOM back during its inception, mostly through casual conversation in a group I belong to largely populated by fashion designers. You’re probably using it right now, and I’m super late to the party. There’s a simple reason for this, and it’s Bakes on Mesh.īakes on Mesh (BOM), has been around for a while.

Suffice it to say, I switched up my Avatar recently, and it was one of the more enjoyable virtual makeovers I’ve ever done. I could go on and on about why, but you already get the “but, you can be whoever you want to be!” aspect of Second Life, or you wouldn’t have stuck around this long.
